Are you looking for a psychologist? Maybe you are convinced about starting therapy, but not so sure about what to expect, what to ask and what to look for. The following frequent questions should be of help, and if you have any doubts, do not hesitate to contact me.
Is psychotherapy for me?
You do not have to necessarily be in the midst of a personal crisis, nor suffering intensely, to enter into therapy and improve your wellbeing. Whether you are navigating a difficult moment in your life, struggling with symptoms (depression, anxiety, panic), or you want to get to know yourself better, you have much to gain from psychotherapy.
What happens during a therapy session?
Every session is, essentially, a conversation focused on yourself: your thoughts, your emotions and your wellbeing. Some are focused on learning techniques, some are focused on problem-solving, and others may be focused on interpersonal issues you are struggling with, blocked feelings that are confusing you, or your ideas about the future. Psychotherapy is an authentic encounter between two people, a therapist and a patient, and no two sessions are alike.
What usually happens during the first session?
Therapy begins with a first session focused on the clinical interview. This has the objective of understanding the problem, or aim, that brings you to therapy, the symptoms from which you are suffering, and your current life situation. But it will also give us the opportunity to get to know each other and to decide upon the details of the process (duration, frequency, objectives).

Do you work with my insurance company?
If you have health insurance, I am an recognised provider with most of the insurance companies in the United Kingdom, such as BUPA, AXA PPP, Aviva and Vitaly Health. You can contact your insurance company for a treatment pre-authorisation after contacting me, but before booking your first appointment.
How can I make a booking with you?

How many sessions do I need?
That depends on you. The duration depends on both your objectives and your situation. If you are looking to clarify or alleviate a specific and contained problem, three to eight sessions may be enough. If you are looking for a self-exploration process or a deep change, more sessions will be needed, and the same is true if what brings you to therapy is more severe. Every person is different, but the duration of the process will always depend on what you consider convenient.
Ideally, weekly, and every session lasts around fifty minutes. Some people prefer a more intensive process, bi-weekly, and others prefer to have their sessions fortnightly once they are close to finishing their therapy.
